I just can't seem to cut a break with this cold, it feels like I've had it for years!
Since I had chicken pox last July, I seem to catch a cold every other week, and once again I'm suffering with the head pressure, runny nose, sore throat and general aches and pains. And of course my rational thinking goes out the window when I feel ill, so I've been curled up in bed eating crisps and toast and drinking lots and lots of orange juice.
I still battle with the crooked thinking, that food will make me feel better when I'm sick, but its almost like trying to reverse time.
Ever since I was a child suffering with fortnightly bouts of tonsillitis, I would curl up on the sofa with a blanket and eat things to 'sooth' my throat, like ice cream and cereal. Even when I had my tonsils removed, the first meal I had to eat before I was allowed home was cereal and toast.
These comforting ways have been my whole lifestyle since I can remember, and it's a really hard habit to break.
I'm thankful that at least I'm now aware of it, so even when I'm eating ice cream with the pretence that its aiding my recovery, I know that its not helping me one bit, but I already start to prepare myself for the after effects and what I can do to improve on my poor diet when I'm well again.
It's a slow process trying to kick a deep rooted habit, but I'm making headway, which I'm very proud of.
Roll on my recovery and getting back to better eating.
